Greetings from the Fantastic Far Western Region,

The Far Western Region is home to over 2000 active members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. who reside in one of the nine states within our region. We are one of the largest in territory that includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Our diversity of membership is also one our major strengths as it brings together the talent, expertise and experience of a broad spectrum of college educated women many of whom started this journey in other parts of the world.

Our first chapter was chartered in 1920, at University of California at Berkeley and now in 2011 we boast of forty graduate chapters and twenty-two undergraduate chapters. The chapters within Far Western Region are actively involved in community service focusing our efforts on the international theme of Global Leadership Through Timeless Service. Carolyn House Stewart, Esq., the 28th International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. established this theme for 2010-2014.

As the 23rd Far Western Regional Director, it is my great fortune to have such wonderfully talented and committed members to surround me with support and love.  It is the most rewarding aspect of being the director.   One more year of this magnificent relationship is sure to crystallize our lifelong connection.

Our website will inform you of the upcoming events within the region, national events and the current newsletter, “Pearls of Wisdom”.  We hope that you enjoy it.  Please contact me or any other member listed for questions or comments.

Thank you for visiting with us even for a short while.

Sisterly,

Soror LaVern S.Tarkington

Far Western Regional Director
